2J3KL Stewardship Cod Fishery - Temporary Closure in NAFO Divisions 3KL

Notice Group Term
Species Term
Notice description

DFO advises that the Northern cod Stewardship fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KL will close at 2000 hours on Wednesday, August 17.

This closure applies to vessel classes A283 and A295.

Consistent with the provisions of the 2022 Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) this closure is necessary as landings are approaching the maximum authorized harvest allocated for the summer period (7799t) up to September 10.

The Department prioritizes safety at sea and if a harvester is unable to retrieve their gear by the close time due to safety, they are advised to contact their local C&P detachment.

The Department will make a further announcement regarding reopening the fishery in 3KL for the fall period for all harvesters (regular season and those who opted for fall only) at a later time and will communicate that decision in advance via a Notice to Fish Harvesters.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-108 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-183 comes into effect on August 16, 2022.

"Notices to Fish Harvesters" for all commercial fisheries are now available online under the Fishery Notices link on the DFO NL Region webpage at Newfoundland and Labrador Region
