Research Vessels
The CCGS Viola M. Davidson, commissioned in 2010, is a specialty vessel equipped with state of the art hydraulic winches, a deck crane, a wet/dry lab and other modern equipment. Used as a daytime near-shore research vessel, it allows Biological Station scientists to effectively and efficiently collect data on the coastal environment and the ecosystem of the Bay of Fundy.
The CCGS Viola M Davidson is 17.95 metres long and 5.24 metres wide and weighs 59.42 GT (gross tonnes). It has a crew of three and can carry up to seven passengers.
Other Station research vessels include four Rossboroughs and two zodiacs that can be commissioned when required using the onsite boat ramp.
In addition, SABS scientists have access to other Canadian Coast Guard vessels, including the CCGS Teleost, CCGS Alfred Needler, and CCGS Hudson to conduct research further offshore.
