On July 18, 2018, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the appointment of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson as Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. Minister Wilkinson, who represents the federal riding of North Vancouver, succeeds the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc. From 2015 to 2018, he held the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson has worked in the private sector for more than 20 years and has held management positions within various companies specializing in the development of green technologies. His work as president and chief executive officer of QuestAir Technologies and BioteQ Environmental Technologies, and as Nexterra’s senior vice-president for business development, enabled him to acquire vast experience in the energy and environmental technologies sectors. In addition, he previously worked at Bain & Company, a leading global management consultancy.

A Rhodes Scholar, Minister Wilkinson used his public policy education to his advantage in his role as a constitutional negotiator and a federal-provincial-territorial relations specialist. He has held several board positions within companies and charitable organizations, notably on the boards of the United Way of the Lower Mainland, the BC Technology Industry Association, and the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation.
