New Magdalen Islands Area Director

The Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, team is happy to announce the appointment of Cédric Arseneau as Area Director of the Magdalen Islands. Mr. Arseneau has held this position on an acting basis since September 2017, and has now been the incumbent since August 7, 2018.

Mr. Arseneau joined Fisheries and Oceans Canada in 2005. He has held various positions in the region, including some in the Quebec regional office and some in the Magdalen Islands office. He started as a statistical data control officer and quickly became the project manager. He also has experience as an advisor on the Species at Risk Act. Between 2009 and 2013, Cédric Arseneau was also a senior regional officer on sustainable development, assuming the role of development coordinator of fisheries-related environmental policies. In 2013, he managed the resource management team at the Magdalen Islands area office. For three years, he then led the development and implementation of the national Electronic Logbooks (ELOGS) program in Canada, as national coordinator of this project. In 2015, he obtained a position as a senior regional officer in the Quebec Region.

Before he began working in the Department, Mr. Arseneau had spent two years managing the Quebec fishers and fishers’ helpers training program for the Comité sectoriel de main-d’œuvre des pêches maritimes. He was working in the Gaspé Peninsula.

Mr. Arseneau has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Université Laval and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the École nationale d’administration publique. His diverse career in the Department and in the fisheries industry will be put to very good use in his duties as Area Director. He will be a major asset to the regional management team. Mr. Arseneau will certainly be able to count on a strong, devoted team, both in the Magdalen Islands and in the Region, in order to face the current challenges in fisheries and oceans management.
