Fisheries and Oceans Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Sylvain Vézina as Associate Regional Director General for Quebec. On October 17, he took over the reins from Jean-Yves Savaria, who is now Regional Director of Science.

Mr. Vézina, who has a master’s degree in economics from Université Laval, began his career with the federal Public Service in 1998 with Industry Canada, now called Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. After holding different economist positions there, he became Regional Director of Integrated Business Management Services with the Canadian Coast Guard in 2006. In 2012, he was appointed Director of the Human Resources and Workplace Services Branch at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. Returning to the Canadian Coast Guard in May 2016, he was, until recently, the Regional Director, Programs, Central and Arctic Region.

Mr. Vézina’s extensive management experience will be an important asset that will help him tackle many challenges and carry out the Department’s projects and mandates.
