A meaningful collaboration to foster Indigenous employability
In 2020, Fisheries and Oceans Canada set a goal of innovating in the recruitment, integration and professional development of Indigenous employees. We now rely on the expertise of a partner specialized in the employability of the Indigenous workforce. For nearly one year now, we have been collaborating with the First Nations Human Resource Development Commission of Quebec (CDRHNPQ), and we are proud of the work we have accomplished to date!
Together, we are implementing various initiatives to create a welcoming and safe work environment that promotes employees’ professional development. The creation of an awareness workshop for work teams and an adapted path for onboarding new colleagues are just a few examples of the concrete actions we have taken to ensure a safe work environment that supports employees’ progression.
This partnership has led us to develop a better understanding of the barriers, challenges and obstacles faced by First Peoples. We have thus reviewed the way we promote some of our jobs and hiring processes to make them more inclusive. Job seekers will be able to recognize these postings by the orange visuals designed specifically for this initiative.
Would you like to know how we integrated the CDRHNPQ’s recommendations? Visit our new Web page dedicated to Indigenous recruitment. First Peoples job seekers will find information on available careers and jobs, contact information, as well as a short form to apply for current postings or to register in our bank of candidates.
