Season Extension - Northern Cod Stewardship Fishery in NAFO Division 2J

DFO advises harvesters that the Northern Cod Stewardship Fishery in NAFO Division 2J (vessel class A292) has been extended and will now close on Saturday, October 29 at 1800 hours. 

New licence conditions are not required. 

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Order 2022-215 has been revoked and Variation Order 2022-224 comes into effect on October 13, 2022.

DFO advises that the Bluefin Tuna fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KLNOP is open by permit only for vessels with 2022 Bluefin tuna tag numbers:

2225, 2264, 2265 and tags in the series 2179 through 2182, series 2183 through 2191 and series 2378 through 2380.

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO's National On-line Licencing System for those harvesters who have been contacted.

Molluscan Shellfish Harvesting Reopening - Avalon Peninsula East

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public of the re-opening for the harvesting of all bivalve shellfish including Arctic wedge calms, Atlantic razor clams, Atlantic surf clams, bay quahaugs, northern propeller clams, ocean quahaugs, softshell clam, Stimpson's surf clams, bay mussels, blue mussel, horse mussels, American oysters, bay scallops, Iceland scallops, purple hinge rock scallop, (except sea scallops), northern moon snails, waved whelks, and Stimpson's whelks for recreational or commercial purposes in the following areas effective 1300 hours on October 4, 2022:

From Grates Point at 48.172711, -52.941921 east and south to Western Point, Cape Race at 46.656144, -53.074678

DFO advises that the Bluefin Tuna fishery in NAFO Divisions 3KLNOP will open by permit only at 0600 hours on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 for vessels with 2022 Bluefin tuna tag numbers: 2264, 2265, 2378 and tags in the series 2179 through 2182 and series 2183 through 2190.

DFO advises that the Herring fixed gear fishery (trap, gillnet, bar seine - including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine") in all of Herring Fishing Area 14 will close at 2000 hours October 4, 2022.

Fish harvesters are reminded that all fishing gear must be removed from the water by the closing time.

Any harvester impacted in this fishery closure by Fiona is asked to reach out to the Corner Brook Area Office at (709) 649-3549.
