SUMMARY OF THE CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN (CHP) AMENDED

Application and Fishing Areas
This Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the fleets of lobster licence holders in Areas 15, 16, 17 et 18.
Fishing season
The specific periods of the 2024 lobster fishing season for each of the Lobster Fishing Areas will be confirmed by Notice to Fish Harvesters or Variation Orders. The duration of the fishing season is 11 weeks for Areas 17AB and 18BCDGH and 12 weeks for Areas 15, 16 and Subarea 18I.
Allocation
The subarea 17A lobster allocation is 6804 kg as part of a pilot project in 2018 and will be re-allocated in 2024.
Management Regime
Areas 15 and 16 : Competitive, by control of fishing effort.
Sub-area 17A : By control of fishing effort with application of a TAC.
Sub-areas 17B, 18B-C-D-G and H : Competitive, by control of fishing effort.
Fishing Gear
Fishery is authorized with a lobster traps, as described in the Conditions of licence.
Other management measures
Management measures for the lobster fishery in 2024 will also include the following aspects:
Fishing gear;
Management measures to minimize the risks or interactions with the North Atlantic Right Whale;
Marine mammal interaction reporting;
Reporting of fishing effort and catches (logbook);
Vessel Monitoring System (VMS);
Boat length;
Trap transport;
Lobster transport;
Species at risk;
Crew registry;
Discharge of waste;
National Online Licensing System.
