SUMMARY OF THE CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN (CHP)

Application and Fishing Areas
This Conservation-based harvesting plan (CHP) applies to Stimpson clam licence holders for the areas of the Upper and Middle North Shore.
Fishing season
The fishery is authorized annually from June 1 to October 31.
The fishing seasons etablished above are in effect for the duration of this CHP. They represent the maximum duration of fishing periods. Opening dates may vary according to particular circumstances such as industry requests and the TAC announcement while closing dates may be advanced according to factors such as the reach of quotas or when risks of exceeding them are high. Opening and closing fishing dates of each fleet will be confirmed through usual communication means, particularly Notices to Fish Harvesters or Variation Orders.
Quotas and management regimes
The total allowable catches (TAC) and management regimes for each fishing area and sub-area are detailed in the Conservation Harvesting Plan.
Minimun catch size
A minimum catch of 80 mm measured in the longest axis of the shell applies
Fishing Gear
Fishery is authorized with a dredge as described in the Conditions of licence.
Other management measures
The management measures for the Sea concomber fishery in 2024 will obligatorily include the following measures:
Management measures to minimize the risks or interactions with the North Atlantic Right Whale;
Marine mammal interaction reporting;
Reporting of fishing effort and catches (logbook);
Vessel Monitoring System (VMS);
Species at risk;
Crew registry;
Discharge of waste;
National Online Licensing System.
