Snow crab area 12F (summary of CHP)

Application and Fishing Areas

This Area 12 F snow crab Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to traditional fish harvesters and to New Access fish harvesters from Quebec and Gulf Regions.

Fishing season

The 2024 Area 12F snow crab fishing season opening date will be confirmed by Notice to Fishers or Variation Orders.

Quotas

The snow crab quota for Area 12F will be 1420.21 tons in 2024.

Fishing Gear

The maximum number of standard traps for traditional fishermen is 75.

The maximum number of traps authorized for New Access licence holders depends on the size of the individual quotas, and ranges from 35 to 75 traps.

Other management measures

Management measures for the snow crab fishery in 2024 will also include the following aspects:

Gear soak time and marking;

Management measures to minimize the risks or interactions with the North Atlantic Right Whale;

Marine mammal interaction report;

Hail prior to departure;

At-sea observer;

Dockside monitoring;

Reporting of fishing effort and catches (logbook);

Vessel Monitoring System (VMS);

White crab monitoring and management;

Boat length;

Partnership;

Quota reconciliation;

Species at risk;

Crew registry;

Discharge of waste;

National Online Licensing System.
