Sylvain Gaumond Awarded Prix d’Excellence by Fisheries and Oceans Canada
This year’s recipient of the National Individual Commitment Prix d’Excellence bestowed by the Harbour Authority Recognition Program was Sylvain Gaumond, port warden and member of the Harbour Authority’s executive office of the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts multipurpose harbour.
Mr. Gaumond initiated several harbour improvement projects, such as the construction of a work platform to facilitate the launch and removal of floating wharves, and the construction of a pedestrian walkway along the riprap of the harbour’s inner basin. These initiatives will ensure that fish harvesters can continue to operate safely and efficiently, as well as the safety of other harbour users. Mr. Gaumond’s efforts have been recognized by the National Harbour Authority Committee and raised interest among many other harbour authorities across the country. His hard work to improve the vitality of the harbour benefits the entire community.
In awarding the Prix d’Excellence this past September, Fisheries and Oceans Canada recognized the leadership and commitment Mr. Gaumond has shown over the last 15 years to uphold the success of the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts multipurpose harbour.
The Prix d'Excellence is the most prestigious harbour authority recognition award. It honours teams and individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the success of the Harbour Authority Program and the Small Craft Harbours Program of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
The fishing industry is an important part of the Canadian culture and economy. Our harbours are crucial to the fishing industry; therefore, it is essential that Canada’s small craft harbours meet our commercial fishing industry’s needs while also supporting the broader interests of coastal communities. Fisheries and Oceans Canada relies on a broad network of volunteers and harbour authority managers and staff to keep facilities operating smoothly and maintain the safety of users.
