The team at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, is proud to announce the appointment of Nicole Bouchard as Regional Director, Ecosystems Management. Ms. Bouchard took office on October 23, 2017.

Nicole Bouchard holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Université du Québec à Montréal and a Master’s degree in Oceanography from the Université du Québec à Rimouski. Since starting at Fisheries and Oceans Canada in 1999, she has gained extensive experience in the field of ecosystems management by successively holding several positions. She first served as an analyst and team leader in the Fish Habitat Management Program. Subsequently, in 2007, she became Regional Manager, Species at Risk, for the Quebec Region, a position she held for 10 years. She then had the opportunity to manage a number of major issues, particularly regarding the protection of the Beluga Whale, the St. Lawrence Striped Bass and the Quebec Salmon.

With her extensive knowledge of ecosystems management issues and her experience within the Department, Nicole Bouchard will be a key member of the Quebec regional management team. She will also be able to count on the team to help her fulfil her mandate and contribute to the protection and conservation of aquatic ecosystems.

Ms. Bouchard takes over from Gordon Walsh. Mr. Walsh retired last summer after supporting the Department in numerous projects and managing a number of ecosystem-related issues.
