New Associate Regional Director General for Quebec

By
Patrick Vincent

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Jean‑Yves Savaria as Associate Regional Director General. Based at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Mont-Joli, Mr. Savaria is replacing Sylvie Pelletier.

Mr. Savaria holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Université du Québec à Montréal and a master’s degree in oceanography from the Université du Québec à Rimouski. He has some 20 years of experience within the Department. He first joined the Oceans Management Program, where he worked as a biologist to develop the Marine Protected Areas Program in Quebec. He then held various positions of increasing responsibility within the Regional Ecosystem Management Branch, including Manager of the Fish Habitat Protection Program from 2009 to 2013. Until very recently, he was Regional Manager, Regulatory Reviews at Fisheries Protection.

His diversified and specialized knowledge of Fisheries and Oceans Canada will make him a valuable ally for the regional management team. He will be able to make use of his extensive experience, particularly in developing and delivering program services, to carry out the mandates entrusted to him.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Sylvie Pelletier a happy retirement and to acknowledge her significant contribution as associate regional director general from April 2016 to April 2019.
