New Area Director, Gaspe–Lower St. Lawrence

By
Richard Nadeau

The Fisheries and Oceans Canada regional management team is pleased to welcome France Simard as Area Director, Gaspe–Lower St. Lawrence. Ms. Simard will work with Vincent Malouin until his retirement in January 2015.

From 2004 to just recently, France Simard worked at Economic Development Canada, where she was the Regional Director for Gaspésie–Iles-de-la-Madeleine. She is knowledgeable about local issues and the importance of fisheries in this area. In addition, she is already familiar with the current Fisheries and Oceans Canada team, since she worked closely with the Department and industry stakeholders to deliver the Adjustment Measures for Quebec Fishing Communities Program and to implement the Community Adjustment Fund – Lobster Initiative.

Ms. Simard has also held communications-related management positions in various departments, including Economic Development Canada, Health Canada, and Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. She began her career working as a journalist at the daily paper Le Droit for eight years and has been a radio commentator for Radio-Canada.

I would like to thank Vincent Malouin for his leadership as Area Director, Gaspe–Lower St. Lawrence over the past 13 years. Throughout his time with us, he has excelled in providing service delivery to the marine sector and support and direction to different industry stakeholders.

France Simard will be supported by the current team at the Department, both in the Gaspe–Lower St. Lawrence area and throughout Quebec, to help her accomplish her mandate and support development in the fishing industry.
