Harrington Harbour Welcomes Minister Shea

The village of Harrington Harbour on the Lower North Shore had the opportunity to showcase its hospitality during a visit by the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on August 18, 2014. Minister Shea was welcomed by various representatives of the local harbour authority, fishing industry and community at large.

Shortly after her arrival, the Minister announced the approval of a Small Craft Harbours Branch project in Harrington Harbour. This multi-year project which includes building a breakwater and installing floating docks will begin in the winter of 2015. The local harbour authority and general public welcomed this major development initiative which will help the community and improve fisher safety.

The announcement was followed by a presentation by Paul Nadeau, Director of the Lower North Shore Fishermen's Association, on the status of the Lower North Shore fishery. Members of the public were encouraged to speak freely with Minister Shea at this presentation. Later in the afternoon, board members of the local harbour authority took her on a tour of the village, including the future construction site of the new harbour infrastructure.

A group supper was then held by the community to mark Minister Shea's visit to this picturesque, welcoming village.
