Entry into Office of an Oceans Management Director

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, is pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Lagacé to the new position of Director, Oceans Management. Ms. Lagacé took office on October 23, 2017.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Science (Biology) from Université Laval, Anne Lagacé began her career in the federal public service working for Environment Canada in Nunavik, where she participated in the assessment of a Canada goose population. A few months later, she joined the Fisheries and Oceans Canada team in Ottawa, where she worked for the Canadian Coast Guard and Fish Habitat Management. Ms. Lagacé subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility within Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region. She first served as Senior Biologist and later as Regional Coordinator for Species at Risk Management. Finally, she worked in oceans management from 2007 until her recent appointment. Her new position is therefore a natural continuation for her.

As Director of Oceans Management, Ms. Lagacé will lead the development of a network of marine protected areas and will manage the resulting conservation activities. Her duties will make her an essential representative and spokesperson for oceans management with other federal departments, Quebec government partners, Indigenous communities, industry representatives and non-governmental organizations.

Ms. Lagacé’s extensive knowledge and experience in species at risk management and oceans management will be a significant asset for the Region and the Department.
