Best Wishes for 2015

As the year draws to an end, we would like to wish you peace, joy, health and happiness for the holiday season. This joyful time gives us an opportunity to look back and take stock of our progress in the last year.

Thanks to your support and collaboration, the Canadian Coast Guard can be proud of its accomplishments in 2014. The organization successfully completed the enhancement of the Regional Operations Centre at its Montreal regional office, allowing for better coordination of activities in the Central and Arctic Region. It also inaugurated the entry into service of the CCGS Caporal Kaeble V.C., a Mid-Shore Patrol Vessel that will help increase safety and security in the St. Lawrence River and Gulf, and CCGS Leim, a Near-Shore Fisheries Research Vessel that will help advance scientific research. Finally, to increase safety in our waters, the Canadian Coast Guard adopted the Incident Command System, internationally recognized for controlling and coordinating emergency response operations.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada continued its collaborative efforts and maintained partnerships established with many of you to strengthen the economic prosperity of the marine and fisheries sectors, the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems, and the safety and security of navigable waters. Some of the large-scale projects the Department has worked on are the Gulf of St. Lawrence Integrated Management Project, which recently completed the important step of publishing the Gulf of St. Lawrence Integrated Management Plan, and the poaching management and online reporting project, which allows people to quickly and easily report illegal fishing and fisheries species poaching to the Department. We would also like to highlight the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program, which has funded various types of restoration projects and projects to improve the productivity of fish habitat in numerous water courses in Quebec.
