Announcement of a modification to the management measures on the shape and size of traps for lobster fishing Area 22 for the season 2024

LOBSTER – AREA 22 – MAGDALEN ISLANDS LOBSTER FLEET 

Magdalen Islands – January 31, 2024

 

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the following modification to the management measures on the shape and size of traps, effective from the 2024 fishing season:

  • The maximum dimensions will be 82 cm in length, 61 cm in width and 50 cm in height, regardless of the shape of the trap used.

 

This decision is based partly on the survey sent to the Area 22 lobster license holders on January 11, 2024, with the following results:

  • 49% of holders responded.

    • 39% of respondents were in favor of scenario 1 (trap height remains unchanged).
    • 61% of respondents were in favor of scenario 2 (no longer takes trap shape into account).
