Application and Fishing Areas

This Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) for Atlantic halibut applies to groundfish licence holders from the following fleets when conducting Atlantic halibut fishing activities in NAFO's 4RST Zone Divisions during the management year from May 15, 2024 to May 14, 2025.

Upper and Middle North Shore fixed gear fleet of less than 19.81 m (UMNS);

Lower North Shore fixed gear fleet of less than 19.81 m (LNS).

Sept-Îles – May 14, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Quebec Region announces the opening and Management Measures for the Atlantic halibut fishery in NAFO Divisions 4RST for the Upper and Middle North Shore (UMNS) fixed gear fleet of less than 19.81 m under the Individual Transferable Quotas (ITQ) regime in 2024-2025.

The initial allocation allowed to the fleet in 2024-2025 prior the application of the quota carryover and reconciliation is 110,335 t.

OPENING OF THE HERRING FISHING SEASON IN AREA 15

Sept-Îles – May 13, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the herring fishery in fishing area 15. The opening will be effective on May 15, 2024.

Eligible fish harvesters who wish to participate in this fishery can ask for their Herring Conditions of licence through the National Licensing System (NOLS) from now on.

The total allowable catch (TAC) for the entire area 15 is established at 4 500 tons for 2024. A maximum catch level of 4 000 tons is allowed in NAFO Subdivision 4Sw.

Opening of the losbster fishery_Area 19A2, 19C1, 19C2 et 20A1_ Gaspé-Lower-St.Lawrence Area_ Notice to fishers

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces the opening of the lobster fishery for sub-area 19A2, 19C1,and 19C2 from May 11 to July 20 2024, and sub-areas 20A1 from May 11 to July 18.

The opening for sub-area 19A3 is postponed and will be opened from May 11 to July 20.

Please note that the season starts at 4h30 AM for all sub-zones.

The management measures set out in the Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP), approved on April 19, 2023, are renewed.

 

Lobster exploratory fishery Subareas 18A TO 18H – North Shore season 2024 - Notice to Fish Harvesters

Subject: Opening of the Exploratory Lobster fishery in subareas 18A to 18H

 

Sept-Iles – May 7, 2024

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is implementing a plan for the knowledge acquisition and development of the lobster fishery in fishing area 18. This plan includes the issuance of exploratory lobster licences for the 2024 season. DFO invites interested licence holders to submit an application for an exploratory licence for lobster in fishing subareas 18A to 18H by April 21, 2024.

Application and Fishing Areas

This Conservation Harvesting Plan (CHP) applies to the fleets of lobster licence holders in Areas 15, 16, 17 et 18.

Fishing season

The specific periods of the 2024 lobster fishing season for each of the Lobster Fishing Areas will be confirmed by Notice to Fish Harvesters or Variation Orders. The duration of the fishing season is 11 weeks for Areas 17AB and 18BCDGH and 12 weeks for Areas 15, 16 and Subarea 18I.

Announcement of the lobster fishing season opening – Area 22-Magdalen Islands Fleet

Magdalen Islands – May 3, 2024

 

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Quebec Region announces that pursuant to Variation Order 2024-Q-016, the lobster fishery in Area 22 will open on May 4, 2024, at 05:00 (ADT).

The fishing season will end on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 23:59 (ADT).
