RADAR, Issue 07, December 2020
Get ready! 2021 is fast approaching!
Report overpayments right away!
Nobody wants to pay tax on money they will ultimately have to return!
If you believe you have been overpaid this year, complete a Phoenix Feedback form and report it to MyPay right away. This way, the overpayment will be recorded in Phoenix so that you will not have to pay tax on this amount even if you have not yet repaid it.
Treasury Board policy on overpayment recovery is still in effect, so you will not be required to repay an overpayment until the TBS conditions are met and a recovery agreement is in place.
And if you are reporting an overpayment from 2020 or up to three previous years, you will only have to repay the net amount you received.
However, if you are reporting an overpayment that is more than three years old, you will have to repay the gross amount and then request the CRA to reassess your taxes.
If you are not sure whether you have been overpaid, contact MyPay!

Next Gen pay system is entering initial exploratory phase
After SAP was selected as the vendor for a new pay system, work started in October at the Department of Heritage and is expected to last about 6 months, depending on the results. Heritage employees will continue to be paid by the Phoenix system, while the SAP work runs in parallel. High complexity departments such as DFO are expected to be part of later stage testing. Keep up to date on the progress.
End of year cut-offs: Don’t forget!

Managers’ Corner
The holidays are just around the corner! In order to meet timeliness, actings must be planned effectively.
If you're taking time off during the holidays and want to designate a replacement, don't forget to submit the acting request for your replacement at the same time as your leave request to avoid any pay delays.
Actings should be submitted at least 5 business days before the effective start date. Remind your team to claim the acting manager while you are away, and then reclaim you as their manager upon your return.
